Mimi's Birthday

Well, our world changed a little during July.  At the end of June, Granny was diagnosed with dementia and 2 days later my parents moved her here from Memphis.  She is living with my parents temporarily until the dementia starts to worsen.  At the beginning Granny was very agitated, violent, and volatile.  I think Mom got about 8 hours of sleep in 4 days.  They found another pill that has made Granny much more lucid and able to have conversations.  Because Granny was unable to go out in public at the time, we catered Hasta la Pasta at our house and enjoyed her birthday together!  It was a night to honor one of the most patient and compassionate people that I know!
Colson wanted to play winter before everyone came over!

We had "Cleaning and Organizing Day" before everyone came over!

The kids were so excited to help...I know that won't last long!

Today is the Day!

For years Brooklyn has been asking to get her ears pierced.  I had told her that her birthday before first grade was when she could do it!  I never imagined it would arrive so soon!  Brooklyn had been counting down the days and could not wait to get them done.  I got mine done before 1st grade, so I thought the timing would be perfect!  After we picked her up from CYT camp, I came home to tutor and we headed out for her birthday dinner, Merle Norman, and Orange Leaf for a little froyo!  Each of the kids get to pick where we go for their birthday dinners.  We went to Cheddars for Colson and Brooklyn chose McDonalds. Not my faves but the kids were so excited!  We went to Merle Norman which is the same place that pierced my ears when I was a little girl.  The lady that did them was so precise and did great.  Brooklyn started crying with anticipation and I held her to have the piercings done.  She picked out some very cute pink 14K gold earrings that she will be able to take out in 6 weeks!  She is so grown up!
I am ready!

You see the concern on her face!

The tears start!

She was so excited after that she continued to cry!

So cute!

Brooklyn's CYT Disney Camp

The week of Brooklyn's birthday, she enjoyed a Christian Youth Team sponsored event that was a Disney Camp.  They spent the week learning a Disney song and simple choreography in order to present it in their showcase on Friday night!  Brooklyn's friend, Karianne, introduced us to CYT and they got to spend great girl time together!  It is the first time that Brooklyn has really been taught how to sing and how to dance!  It was such a cute showcase!  Brooklyn's class, Our Gang, sang a song from The Princess and the Frog called "Almost There!"  Such a fun week that we will be looking forward to every summer!

HAPPY 4TH OF JULY!

We had a great 4th!  It was spent with friends at the Kuhn's house.  Great food, great friends, and we had great weather!  I know it is shocking to hear but the weather was breezy and wonderful in the evening!  It was so nice sitting outside watching the kids play and just enjoy water time!  On the way home, we stopped and saw the firework show that Splashtown does because it is so close to our house!  It was really cool!  The kids loved it and were amazed at all of the beautiful red, white, and blue fireworks!

Heemer Playtime

At the beginning of the summer, Jennifer and I set aside dates that we would get together and let the kids play and just enjoy seeing each other.  Jennifer and I used to teach together many years ago at Smith but have stayed incredibly close!  Jennifer lived with Curt and I for a little while before her move to Denver while finishing out a school year, so we definitely have a special bond!  We have been to Splashtown (but have no pictures of that), and then we went out to their new house in town and did a craft and let the kids play!  The Tshirts turned out very cute and they were super easy!  LOVE my time with Jennifer and her kids!
Jennifer was drafted to play dress up!
